Hardware Design Engineer

Location: Dresden, Germany

We are growing our hardware development team and would like to hire a Hardware Engineer (m/w, full-time) as soon as possible.

The Hardware Design Engineer will develop products containing face recognition technology and consisting of different hardware components. This includes designing, implementing and optimizing electronic boards and components using modern PCB design tools. The Hardware Design Engineer will become part of a well-established and cooperative team. Because Cognitec is an international company mainly dealing with foreign markets, we expect the new member to have excellent written and verbal communications (minimum European reference level B2) skills in German and English.

Key areas of responsibility

  • apply principles and techniques of computer science and electrical engineering to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of hardware products and systems
  • in cooperation with product management, analyze customers needs
  • design, implement, and test face recognition hardware systems while maintaining a high-quality and transparent development process
  • provide knowledgeable technical support to customers and the customer service team

Required skills and experience

  • profound knowledge of PCB design tools, especially Altium Designer (minimum of 3 years’ experience in industrial design projects using this tool suite)
  • broad knowledge of digital and analog circuit technology and according design methods for high-speed digital and analog designs
  • profound knowledge in EMC-driven design and ability to assist and supervise certification procedures for EMC, ESD and safety
  • experience in developing software for microcontrollers
  • knowledge of advanced modern measurement and analysis tools (e.g. oscilloscopes, logic and spectrum analyzers)
  • experience with programmable logic and FPGA design methods
  • ideally, experience with the Quartus design system for INTEL FPGA
  • knowledge of at least one hardware description language (ideally Verilog or System Verilog)
  • experience in working with Linux and Windows systems as a development platform
  • knowledge of scripting languages (Shell, Python) for developing testing work flows
  • familiarity with software management tools (Make, Git) and team collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence)
  • experience in developing exact technical specifications for collaboration with external partners
  • willingness to learn and the ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new work assignments
